Work continues on Sky Building
From David Volz
Work is continuing on the transformative Sky Building project that is jumpstarting the revitalization of Downtown Oakland Park.
The City has completed the sale of the vacant lots on Park Lane and Dixie Highway, which will allow construction on the Sky Building to get underway. The mixed-use project is expected to bring the community vision for the downtown to fruition by supporting local businesses and creating a walkable and vibrant destination.
Leaders in Oakland Park have wanted the Sky Building project for years. The City saw an opportunity to transform the land in the heart of its downtown into a charming area where the community can live, work, and play. Through a public-private partnership with NR Investments, Oakland Park will be the landmark tenant in a new City Hall on the south side of Park Lane. Moving City Hall is part of an effort to relocate services across Dixie Highway to provide resources to help all residents and businesses thrive and succeed.
The Sky Building will include residential units, “live/work” spaces, commercial space, and public parking to promote walkability and sustainability. The project, which will generate ad valorem revenue, is anticipated to enhance property values in the downtown and spur further investment that will create new retail, office, entertainment, dining, and housing opportunities in Oakland Park.
