Week 3 Training Camp Review: Stock Up, Stock Down, and Injuries

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

Week 3 came after fans watched the Giants run over our back ups with our first preseason match up. We came out a little light with players after the conquest though.

Iniuries:

Antoine Green Wide Receiver, after being 3 catches on 3 targets for 17 yards went down with a concussion. No timetable on his return.

Connor Galvin, Offensive Tackle, left the game with a MCL tear and will moss the rest of the season.

Hendon Hooker l, Quarterback, left the game with a mild concussion with only having one drive. He went five of nine passing and the offense looked energetic while on the field.

Nate Lynn, Defensive End, left the game with a shoulder injury and will miss the entirety of the season. Sad because he was one of the budding stars emerging to make this roster.

Ike Boetger, Offensive Guard went down with an undisclosed injury.

James Houston, Edge Defender, undisclosed knee injury. Will update with more information, when I receive it.

Rough week for the Lions on the injury front!

Stock Up:

Brendan Joseph, Safety, a resigned UDFA from last season is making a great case to make the 53-man roster. Including a pair of INTs I witnessed personally at training camp August 11th.

Jake Betts, Place Kicker, made a 53 yard FG in the game last Thursday. Outside with wind and rain. Dan Campbell said they won’t bring a Kicker that he’s our guy. Camp note: went five of seven with a long of 64 yards at Camp to half the width of regulation FGs. Maybe the training camp accuracy is a little over blown. And there was 10-15 mph wind gusts from time to time. It would have cleared the uprights for 70 yards out easily!!!

Brodric Martin, Defensive Tackle, had an impressive showing with a shared sack, with the aforementioned Nate Lynn. Also has moved into the 2nd string defense. And also allows first string defenders to rest at times at Camp. Was the starter in the preseason game.

Stock Down:

Nate Sudfeld, Quarterback, absolutely folded with the lights were brightest for the preseason game. Held the ball to long, thus allowing sacks multiple times. He might just be a practice darling.

CJ Moore, Safety, as far as our safety room is concerned. At this point, CJ Moore is mostly an option fighting for a roster spot. And losing to a guy that is outshining him (Brendan Joseph). Headed to Bubble Watch for me.

James Houston, Edge Defender, they are giving this guy every opportunity to prove he can get back to his rookie form, and he just doesn’t have it. Everything up to his timing looks off.

Summary:

The bubble watch list is getting bigger and more defined. The game was pre-season. But it was good to see the team in action, with their only points were from the Field Goal Jake Bates hit. Lions lose 3-14.
