WBB | Second-Half Surge Powers Owls to Road Win at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. – A dominant second-half performance powered the Florida Atlantic Owls to a 64-48 win over the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday in Greenville.
The Owls improve to 9-6 on the season and 1-1 in AAC play, while ECU falls to 8-7 and 0-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls opened the contest on a 5-0 run after a triple from Stefanie Ingram and a transition bucket from Mya Perry. After the Pirates tied things up at 5-5, Perry and Ingram combined for another pair of buckets to extend the Owls lead back to five, 10-5. The Owls maintained a five-point advantage through the 2:39-minute mark, leading 12-7, but ECU closed the period on a 5-1 run to close the Owls’ lead to just one after the first, 13-12.
Perry opened the second quarter scoring for the Owls, extending the lead back to three, 15-12. ECU scored four unanswered to take its first lead of the day at 16-15, however, Ta’Ziah Jenks got the and-1 off a bucket and the foul to push the Owls back in front 18-16 at the second quarter media break. Following a 20-20 tie, the Pirates narrowly outscored the Owls over the final two minutes of the half as one possession separated the teams at the break, 26-25.
ECU scored four unanswered to open the third, 30-25. The Pirates maintained a four-point advantage through the 5:26-minute mark, 32-28, but the Owls locked in over the following three minutes of clock to go on a 13-0 run, capped off by a Perry triple, to take a nine-point lead, 41-32. ECU closed the gap to five, 41-36, with 57 seconds to go in the third, but a pair of free throws from Jada Moore closed out the period as the Owls held a seven-point lead, 43-46, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Pirates opened the fourth with a three, cutting the Florida Atlantic lead to four, 43-39, but the Owls answered back on another dominant run, outscoring ECU 12-0 to take a 16-point lead, 55-39, with 5:34 to play. ECU tried to battle back with a 9-2 run to cut the Owls’ lead to nine, 57-48, but Florida Atlantic locked in over the final three minutes of play, scoring seven unanswered to close out the 64-48 win.

NOTES AND TEAM STATS
The win marked the Owls first-ever over ECU and their first in Greenville.
Mya Perry led the way for the Owls with a career-best 29-point performance, shooting 50 percent (10-of-20) from the field, 50 percent (4-of-8) from beyond the arc, and 83 percent (5-of-6) at the line. She also tied for a team-high four steals and collected a board.
Jada Moore also scored in double figures for the Owls, turning in 12 points on 44 percent (4-of-9) from the field and 4-of-6 at the line.
Ta’Ziah Jenks led the Owls on the boards, collecting a career-high 13 rebounds and adding seven points, two steals, an assist, and a block.
Stefanie Ingram dished out a team-leading five assists.
The Owls dominated in transition, outscoring the Pirates 19-3, and in points off turnovers, 25-9, and in steals, 11-7.Florida Atlantic outshot ECU from the field, 35.6 percent to 33.9 percent, and from 3-point range, 38.9 percent to 14.3 percent.

The Owls will return home next week as they get set to host a two-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 8 against the Temple Owls. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on ESPN+.
