BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball officially kicked off its 2024-25 season on Monday as the Owls had their first day of official practice inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
“I was pleased with their excitement level, I think they were really excited for the first day of practice, which is always great.” expressed head coach Jennifer Sullivan. “It’s so different now, you practice in the off-season, and so the first day of practice doesn’t feel any different. But I know for me personally, it did feel different. I was really looking forward to it, and I really feel like the team looked forward to it, too, so from that standpoint, it was great. Our execution, obviously, we have a long way to go. Getting used to the physicality, it was one of the first days that it went that long, and we had practice guys for the duration of practice, and I think that was kind of a shell shock to our system. But I think this is going to be a really special group, I think they are going to mold and mesh and play well together. The first day of practice is a wrap, and just proud of their effort.”
Day one began with team stretching before the Owls had their official first day team starting lineup intros. The Owls’ first day was sectioned off into four quarters. The first quarter was focused on stretching and warm-up drills, the second quarter was focused on defense, quarter three focused on offense, and the fourth quarter closed out practice with transition and free throw shooting.
The Owls officially kick off the 2024-25 regular season in 42 days when they travel to Florida on Monday, Nov. 4. Florida Atlantic will open its home slate on Saturday, Nov. 9, as the Owls welcome the Mercer Bears to Paradise.
