Wahren Sets 18-Hole Record for Lynn Women’s Golf

Miami Shores, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s golf team shot the lowest round of the day to finish fourth at the Barry U Invite by ACF Pizza.  Not only did the team post the lowest score but Matilda Wahren shot a program-record 66 and placed fifth individually.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

·         Lynn’s 286 was one shot better than Barry (862) and moved the Fighting Knights (879) up from a tie for sixth into sole possession of fourth.  Florida Tech (871) dropped to second with Arkansas Tech (875) holding strong in third.  Keiser (883) and Nova Southeastern (883) shared fifth place.

·         Wahren had a clean scorecard following the third round, sinking six birdies with 12 pars and no bogeys.  She leapfrogged nine positions to place fifth with a 54-hole total of 213.

·         Helen Kreuzer dropped into a tie for ninth despite shooting even par on the round and for the tournament.  She traded three birdies with three bogeys for a 72 and 216 total.

·         Kristina Ortiz mirrored her teammate Kreuzer with three birdies and three bogeys.  Her final round 72 gave her a 218 total, tying for 13thindividually.

·         Cristina Guiterrez logged her second consecutive round of 76 with 14 pars on the day.

·         Serena Nguyen headed to the clubhouse with her best round of the tournament, a 78.  She drained one birdie with three bogeys, two doubles and 12 pars.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

·         The previous 18-hole program record was 68, shot eight times by six individuals.  It was last carded by Helen Kreuzer on Feb. 19, 2019.

·         Wahren’s 213 is the third-lowest 54-hole score, trailing Ortiz’s 210 (shot at the Barry Invite in 2016) and Kreuzer’s 212, which she set at the Lady Moc Classic in Feb. 2019.

·         Three of the four lowest 54-hole totals in program history have come at the Barry Invite (Ortiz – 210 in 2016, Wahren and Jenny Ayalla – 216 in 2017).

·         Wahren topped her previous low score by five shots and beat her 54-hole total by eight strokes.

·         Only Florida Tech (-17) and Florida Southern (-2) were better than Lynn (E) on par 5 scoring while only Rollins (190) led Lynn (185) in total pars.

·         Wahren led the field in par 4 scoring (-5) while Kreuzer was tied for sixth in par 3 scoring (-1).

·         Two golfers had more pars than Ortiz (42) while Kruezer (11) and Wahren (10) were tied for sixth and 10th in total birdies.

·         Lynn has finished in the top-five of every tournament they have participated in.
