Volleyball – Sharks Drop SSC Opener in Five Sets

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern Volleyball began Sunshine State Conference action on Friday evening at the Rick Case Arena. The Sharks fell in a dramatic, back-and-forth, five-set match against Lynn.

How it Happened
  • Lynn opened the match with a 4-1 advantage, but the Sharks were able to take advantage of three errors by the Fighting Knights and a service ace from Kate Mihacevich, as NSU rallied to take a 5-4 lead.  
  • Nadia Lindner sparked a 9-1 run for NSU, which also featured points from Taylor Stockman and Varshini Panuganti, as the Sharks rallied to extend their lead to 14-7.  
  • The Fighting Knights were able to get back into the set, reclaiming the lead at 19-16 over NSU.  
  • Trailing 24-20, Lindner and Brittany Landrum each tallied a kill, cutting into Lynn’s lead, but ultimately, NSU dropped the set 25-22.  
  •  In the early points of the second set, Lynn held a 10-6 lead over the Sharks. Nova Southeastern rallied and scored 11-of-13 points, taking full control of the set and put the score at 17-12.  
  • Nadia Lindner closed out the second set, 25-20, tying the match at 1-1, by recording the final three points for NSU. 
  • The third set continued with the same effort exhibited from both teams as they showed in the first two. With the score tied at 7-7, Nova Southeastern received kills from Olivia Aniol, Landrum and Lindner, putting the score at 11-8.  
  • Later in the set, the Sharks rallied for another 4-0 run – capped by a service ace from Lindner – extending the advantage to 16-10.  
  • Lynn responded with a lengthy run of their own, before closing out the third set by a score of 25-21.  
  • Nova Southeastern seized the momentum in the fourth set, as the Sharks jumped out to an early 5-1 lead following back-to-back kills from Kate Mihacevich.  
  • The early rally by Nova Southeastern continued with another lengthy run, NSU capitalized on multiple errors by Lynn and opened up a 15-3 advantage.  
  • NSU’s lead held firm throughout the fourth set, following a service ace from Lindner and a kill from Landrum, the Sharks tied the match with a 25-16 fourth set victory.  
  • In the fifth and final set of the match, Nova Southeastern made a run to put the score at 9-8, but were unable to take the lead and dropped the Sunshine State Conference opening match to Lynn.
