Bulls are tied for 4th place at the end of the second round in the NCAA Regional
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA., MAY 9, 2023 – The USF women’s golf team has an NCAA Tournament berth in its sights after two rounds of the NCAA Palm Beach Regional.
The Bulls are tied with No. 10-ranked Texas for fourth place at +13 and lead two other top 20-ranked teams. The top five teams from each NCAA regional advance to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 19-24.
USF opened with a five-over par 293 in the regional first round on a tough PGA National Course. In the second round, the Bulls shot eight-over 296 for a two-round total of +13 589. All teams in the field are over par with No. 34-ranked Michigan State leading at +5 581.
“They’re staying in the fight on a tough golf course,” said head coach Erika Brennan. “They have the biggest hearts wanting success for each of their teammates. When you play like that, great things happen! We need another solid round tomorrow and the team is ready to get back out there.”
The Bulls, making their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2012, are looking for their fifth appearance in the NCAA Championship round but first since 1991. They have finished in the top 10 in each of their four previous trips to the championship.
Junior Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) is pacing the Bulls. Green is tied for fifth place after two even par rounds of 72, just four shots off the lead. Through two rounds, Green is tied for second in the field with eight birdies and is second in scoring on the par 3’s at -2.
Sophomore Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) led the field with the lowest round of the day, firing a three-under 69. She posted the only round in the 60’s among the field and moved 34 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 12th place at +3 for the tournament.
Graduate student Lauren Heinlein (Ocala) is tied for 30th place following two rounds of 75 for a +6 total. Heinlein made five birdies on the front nine in the second round.
Junior Alizee Vidal (Le Gosier, France) opened with a two-over 74 and followed up with 77 in the second round. Vidal is T36 with a score of +7. In the second round, Vidal bounced back after shooting 41 on the front nine with an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Sophomore Juliana Camargo (Bogata, Columbia) has carded rounds of 75 and 80 and stands t48 at +11.

About USF Women’s Golf
The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Junior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first two seasons, reached the 2022 NCAA Regionals as an individual and competed in both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships.
