USF WGolf: Bulls Head to Vegas for The Show

The University of South Florida women’s golf team looks to make a statement out west.

TAMPA, FLA., Feb. 19, 2023 – The USF women’s golf team heads to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in The Show golf tournament Feb. 20-21. The 15-team tournament will be played at Spanish Trail Country Club (Par-72, 6,434 Yards). Teams will play 18 holes on Monday and conclude play with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Both rounds will have an 8:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start. The Bulls, who enter the tournament ranked No. 69 by Golfstat, will take the course Monday with pairings with No. 47 Purdue and No. 52 Furman.

USF will compete in a field that includes No. 6 Mississippi State, host UNLV, Furman, Purdue, Kent State, New Mexico, Denver, North Florida, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Pepperdine, Texas State, Nevada and Washington State.

“We will remain committed to the controllables out in Vegas this week and know that will help us finish where we need to be,” said USF Coach Erika Brennan. “Final rounds have been our nemesis so we’re switching things this week with how we’re preparing.  This team is capable and determined and we’re ready to go test ourselves out on the West Coast.”

Brennan announced the following lineup for the Bulls: 

1.            Melanie Green (Jr./Medina, N.Y)

2.            Alizee Vidal (Jr./Le Gosier, France)

3.            Leonor Medeiros (So./Palmela, Portugal)

4.            Lauren Heinlein (Gr./Ocala, Fla.)

5.            Juliana Camargo (So./Bogota, Columbia)

Green stands in the top 100 in the national rankings and leads the Bulls with a 71.85 adjusted scoring average.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bulls last competed at the FAU Paradise Invitational where they opened the spring slate and finished 5th of 14 teams. USF recorded an 8-over par 872 for the 54-hole tournament to finish behind No. 19 Vanderbilt (-29, 835), No. 47 Nebraska (-4, 860), Missouri (-2, 862) and Brigham Young (+5, 869) and tied with Kennesaw State (+8, 872).

Junior Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) led USF with a sixth-place finish at 6-under par 210 for the tournament after posting an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday. It marked Green’s fourth top 10 finish of the 2022-23 season after posting three in the fall. Alizee Vidal (Le Gosier, France) joined Green in posting a top 10 finish as she tied for 10th with a 2-under par 214. It marked her second top 10 since joining USF in the fall.

The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Junior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first two seasons, reached the 2022 NCAA Regionals as an individual and competed in both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships.
