TAMPA, October 19, 2023 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (13-7, 7-2 AAC) will welcome the North Texas Mean Green to the Yuengling Center on Friday night for the Bulls Blackout match.
Last week South Florida welcomed AAC newcomers, the Charlotte 49ers to The Corral for a pair of matches. The Bulls swept the 49ers on Friday and defeated them in four sets on Sunday. Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) led the team with 33 kills and 30 digs. On Sunday, she set a new career high of 19 digs. She earned a spot on the AAC Honor Roll for the second time this season.
South Florida joined the American in 2013 and is off to their best start since joining. Through the first nine matches, the Bulls are 7-2. The only losses were against Memphis and Wichita State. The Bulls are also tied for the top spot in the east division with East Carolina.
The Bull’s graduate assistant, Makayla Washington played for the Green and Gold for four years. This weekend, she will help coach the Bulls as they go head-to-head with her younger sister Alexa Washington. Alexa is a sophomore setter for North Texas.

- North Texas is coming a split weekend against UTSA. The Mean Green swept the Roadrunners before falling in five sets.
- Treyauna Rush averages 2.73 kills per set. She has a total of 229 kills, which leads the team.
- Aleeyah Galdeira is currently leading North Texas with 327 digs.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her fourth season at the helm of her alma mater in 2023. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls’ program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. USF made its last postseason appearance in 2018, posting 20 wins and appearing in the NIVC. USF Volleyball has made seven NCAA Tournament appearances and won 12 conference titles since its inception in 1972. The Bulls play in The Corral (1,000), adjacent to the Yuengling Center on the USF campus.
