TAMPA, March 20, 2024– The University of South Florida softball team is back on the road this Friday through Sunday as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take on the UAB Blazers for the first time as American Athletic Conference opponents.
The Bulls and Blazers have a history as conference opponents when both teams were in Conference USA. During their time in C-USA, the Bulls posted a 14-7 record against the Blazers. South Florida took the last meeting against UAB, 6-3, in February 2018 in Tampa. The Bulls lead the all-time series 16-9.
Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) continues to be one of the conference’s top pitchers. She leads the conference in five categories and ranks in the top 25 nationally in four. Nationally, Dixon is 17th in wins (10), 19th in hit batters (3), 21st in strikeouts (88), 22nd in shutouts (3), and 34th in ERA (1.25).
At the plate, Olivia Elliott (Tampa) is the toughest batter to strike out in the American. In her 73 plate appearances, Elliott has only struck out twice. She is ranked 29th nationally in toughest batters to strike out.
