USF Softball: Records Fall as USF Softball Opens Weekend with Win Against Wichita State

Two records fell as the Bulls defeated the Shockers, 7-3

TAMPA, Fla., April 8, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team opened its weekend conference series with a 7-3 win over Wichita State in a game where a pair of records fell.

Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) stole three bases in the game, bringing her season total to a program-record 41 swipes. She entered the day with 38, tied for the No. 1 spot in the USF record book with AnaMarie Bruni, who set the record last season.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) continued her record-breaking ways by passing Sara Nevins for the USF all-time lead in wins with her 102nd. It’s the sixth USF career record that she’s broken this season.

The Bulls wasted no time in establishing a lead. After Corrick ended the first by only allowing a single baserunner, Johns reached on an infield single and stole second to set the new program record. Following a walk from Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.), Madison Epperson (Tampa, Fla.) hit her 12th double of the season that scored Johns and Pierro to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

Alanah Rivera added to the lead with a two-run home run in the second inning, her first of the year and second of her career. Later in the inning, Johns scored from second on a Pierro sacrifice fly to center field to extend the lead to 5-0.

Wichita State got on the board in the third, scoring an unearned run on a single to right.

South Florida answered quickly, with Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) hitting her first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field that also scored Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to push the score to 7-1.

The Shockers wouldn’t go quietly. After a solo home run in the fourth that cut the USF lead to five, Wichita State’s comeback attempt ended with another unearned run in the fifth.

Corrick shut down the opposing offense for the rest of the game, winning her 26th of the season, striking out 14 in the process.
