USF Plays to Scoreless Draw Against FGCU in First Road Match of the Season

Bulls held an advantage in both shots and shots on goal against the Eagles.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2021) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team battled for 110 minutes on the pitch in Fort Myers against Florida Gulf Coast University, but that wasn’t enough as the two sides finished in a scoreless draw at Pickering Field. The Bulls move to 1-1-1 on the year while the Eagles go to 0-1-1.

South Florida could not take advantage of playing a man up on FGCU after the Eagles’ Shandel Senior received his second yellow card of the night, resulting in a red card in the 51’ minute of play.

The Bulls had their chances to get on the board during the night.

In the 30’, Jeffrey “JT” Copper (Tampa, Fla.) took a pass into the box, on the far side of the FGCU defense, and rose above to head the ball towards the goal from eight yards out, only to have his offering go inches left of the far post.

Then, minutes after the Eagles went a man down, Andres Feire (Sarasota, Fla.) took a ball out of the air and fired a laser that went wide left in the 65’ of play.

Shion Soga (Aichi, Japan) had one last opportunity as regulation came to a close but his attempt went just over the crossbar.

At the end of the night, the Bulls held the advantage in shots, 13-6, and a slight edge in shots on goal, 3-2.

Kazuna Takase (Tomoto, Japan) turned in his first career shutout while recording two saves on the night.
