A Spring Game record crowd of 5,467 turned out at Raymond James Stadium
TAMPA, APRIL 9, 2022 – The White Team posted two second half touchdowns and got a big interception from senior linebacker Antonio Grier (Atlanta) as it posted a 17-14 victory over the White Team in a highly competitive USF Spring Game presented by USF Federal Credit Union Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.
Sophomore quarterback Katravis Marsh (Hialeah) threw two touchdowns and passed for 124 yards and senior running back Michael Hamilton ran for a game high 50 yards on eight carries
as a Spring Game record 5,467 fans enjoyed their first look at the 2022 Bulls as well as a halftime alumni flag football game – won by the Gold Team quarterbacked by BJ Daniels – and postgame fireworks on a crisp spring evening.
Sophomore quarterback Timmy McClain (Sanford) guided the White Team down the field 70 yards on the opening drive of the game, hitting fellow Seminole High School teammate Jimmy Horn (Sanford) for a pair of 14-yard completions before the drive stalled at the 7-yard line and Spencer Shrader (Lithia) converted a short field goal.
The Green Team answered back with Marsh connecting with junior Xavier Weaver (Orlando) on a 29-yard completion and then hitting him with a 10-yard touchdown pass to complete a 60-yard drive and take a 7-3 lead.
The Green Team took a 14-3 lead to halftime when Marsh led an 18-play, 94-yard drive at the end of the second quarter, capping the drive with a four-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Yusuf Terry (Philadelphia).
The White Team responded in the second half, outscoring the Green 14-0 to claim the victory.
Following a fumble recovery by Tramel Logan (Miami), the White Team drove 21 yards and cut the Green Team lead to 14-10 when freshman Jason Albritton (Lithia) plunged in from 1 yard out.
The White Team added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, driving 72 yards in just four plays. Wide receiver Sean Atkins (Viera) hit tight end Gunnar Greenwald (Satellite Beach) for a 45-yard gain on a trick play. Clemson transfer Ajou Ajou (Brooks, Alberta) capped the drive with a 17-yard touchdown reception from McClain.
NOTEABLE
• Quarterback Katravis Marsh passed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-26 passing with one interception.
• Quarterback Timmy McClain passed for 105 yards on 12-of-21 and one interception.
• Wide receiver Xavier Weaver had another impressive spring game catching four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.
• Tight end Gunnar Greenwald caught three passes for 59 yards.
• Linebacker Antonio Grier returned an interception 23 yards and had five tackles and two tackles for loss.
• Safety Mekhi LaPointe recorded an interception and three tackles.
• Linebacker Brian Norris led all tacklers with nine stops on the night.
• Transfer defensive tackles Rashad Cheney and Nick Bags were joined by defensive end Jason Vaughn in posting sacks on the night.

The USF football program first took the field in 1997 and celebrated its 25th season (22nd at the FBS level) in 2021 while breaking ground on a $22 million Indoor Performance Facility.
