USF Baseball: Mayo named AAC Player of the Week, H. Mink to Honor Roll

Freshman Jackson Mayo earns the award for the first time in his career.

IRVING, Texas (March 14, 2022) – University of South Florida freshman outfielder Jackson Mayo (St. Johns) has been named the American Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Teammate Hunter Mink (Palm Harbor) was also named to the American Weekly Honor Roll.

Mayo batted .500 (9-for-18) with a double, two home runs and four RBI over five games last week. The true freshman’s offensive breakout was highlighted by a 4-for-5 effort with two homers on Friday night which helped steer the Bulls into a series win over Bradley University.

Mayo blasted hit first collegiate home run over the scoreboard and onto the top of the batting cages in the second inning of Friday’s game to give USF a 2-1 lead. His second long ball of the night was a three-run shot that broke a 3-3 tie and propelled South Florida to a 6-3 win.

On the mound, H. Mink made three appearances, tallying a win and two saves. The redshirt sophomore struck out nine batters over 4.0 IP in those outings. H. Mink has made seven total appearances in his first season at USF and has not allowed a run over 10.0 IP while striking out 18 batters.

The Bulls begin their week on Tuesday with a game at FIU scheduled for 6 p.m. USF then returns home for a three-game weekend series against Mercer which is set to begin on Friday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Tampa.
