USF Baseball: Bulls’ win streak snapped at FGCU

The Bulls suffered a 7-1 loss to the Eagles, snapping a seven-game winning streak.

FORT MYERS (March 12, 2021) – The USF baseball team (7-4) saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night in a 7-1 setback at Florida Gulf Coast University (8-4) as the Bulls opened a three-game series with the Eagles.

In a matchup between the reigning AAC Pitcher of the Week for USF, Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill), and the ASUN Pitcher of the Week, Mason Studstill, the Eagles’ starter shined on his home field.

Jasiak (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. The redshirt freshman allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits over 5.0 IP while striking out six batters. Studstill earned the win for FGCU, pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out seven and allowing just three hits

The Eagles scored an unearned run against Jasiak in the first inning, and proceeded to score at least once in five of the first seven frames.

Riley Hogan (Orlando) ensured the Bulls wouldn’t suffer their first shutout of the year with an RBI-single in the eighth inning to score Nick Gonzalez (Tampa).

  • Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) saw his 10-game hitting streak snapped as the freshman went 0-for-3 with a walk at the plate.
  • Jasiak failed to record a quality start for just the second time in eight career outings.
  • Connor Churchill (Tampa) and Alex Lozado (Georgetown, Ind.) each pitched scoreless innings in relief for USF.
  • The Bulls’ one run is their lowest offensive output since opening day vs. FGCU (L, 4-1, 10 innings).
  • FGCU has won four straight against USF in 2021.

The series will shift to Tampa on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at USF Baseball Stadium. The Bulls and Eagles will then conclude their three-game set in Fort Myers on Sunday.
