59 USF Student-Athletes Slated to Receive Degrees During Spring & Summer Commencements
USF Commencement held this weekend at Yuengling Center
TAMPA, MAY 1, 2023 – USF Athletics congratulates another outstanding group of student-athletes slated to receive their degree during the University’s spring or summer commencement ceremonies.
Athletics held its annual Graduate Brunch on Monday morning and honored 59 USF student-athletes who are projected to receive their degrees this spring and summer, increasing Athletics’ total number of graduates to nearly 80 for the 2022-23 academic year (fall-spring-summer commencements) and over 600 since the 2016-17 school year. Heading into the spring term, the Bulls had posted an overall annual department grade-point average above 3.0 for a program-record of eight consecutive years and 16 straight semesters.
USF will see 52 student-athletes receive their degrees during the University of South Florida’s 2023 Spring Commencement Convocation held this weekend at Yuengling Center on the USF campus. Another seven are slated to earn their degree during summer commencement.
“We are very proud of our student-athletes that have earned a degree from the University of South Florida, which is a primary goal for all our student-athletes and the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication,” Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. “We thank them for their many accomplishments and contributions to our university and wish them all the very best as they pursue careers and make positive impacts in communities all over the world.”
Bulls representing 14 athletic teams are slated to receive a degree this weekend, including three members of the women’s basketball team that won the 2023 AAC regular season and advanced to the program’s ninth NCAA Tournament. Ten members of the football team are also earning degrees, including six slated to return for the 2023 season.
Among some of the notable student-athletes earning degrees this spring are recent WNBA Draft selection and WBCA All-American Elena Tsineke; five-year starting football center Brad Cecil, who is earning his master’s in business administration; the baseball team’s leaders in pitching wins, Hunter Mink, and home runs and RBI, Daniel Cantu; softball’s Vivian Ponn (second on the team in home runs, RBI and ERA); volleyball’s Makayla Washington (who served as co-president of USF’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee); AAC track champions David Ajama (triple jump), Monte Parker (4X400 relay) and Elijah Wright (4X400 relay); and men’s basketball standout Keyshawn Bryant (whose highlight dunks were featured in the ESPN Top 10 Plays on five occasions last season).
