Florida will travel a total of seven athletes to compete in at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators Women’s Cross Country team will finish their regular season contests with an appearance at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational this Friday, October 13. While the women compete on the road, the men will continue to train in Gainesville ahead of SEC Championships.
The Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational is a notoriously competitive race and this year is no different. Of the thirty-six teams competing in the Women’s “Championship” Race, twenty-two are nationally ranked according to the USTFCCCA. Additionally, thirty-one of the thirty-six have either received votes or were ranked earlier in the season.
The No. 9 Florida Gators return to Wisconsin for the first time since 2014 when they competed in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational.
The set of seven athletes are scheduled to compete in the “Women’s 6k Championship” which is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT
In the Gators most recent competition, the men’s team took home a first-place finish and the women finished second at the FSU XC Invitational.
The men competed in an 8k race and placed first as they collected 39 points. The Gators top five finishers included a first overall finish by Ethan Geiger, and top twenty finishers from Joe Wester (3), Aiden Villasuso (9), Javi Vento (12) and Matt Mule’ (17).
The women’s team recorded a second-place finish totaling 42 points in the 5k race. Lucinda Rourke, Liina Winborn, Sayla Donnelley, Jordan Shapiro and Rylee Pustilnik all contributed points toward the total.
PARTICIPATING GATORS
Florida will be sending seven women to the course this weekend.
Of the ten athletes competing, four have already raced this season. That group includes Sayla Donnelley, Lucinda Rourke, Allison Wilson and Liina Winborn.
Parker Valby, competing in her third full cross country season, will make her 2023 debut.
A duo of transfers, Flomena Asekol and Elise Thorner, will make both their Florida debut and season debut on Friday.
