MADISON, Wis. – Florida women’s tennis is making their first trip to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Team National Championships since 2018 this weekend when they head to Madison, Wis., for a shot at the title.

The Gators are no stranger to success at the National Team Indoor Championships, having claimed the title during the 2017 season after defeating No. 13 Michigan (4-1), No. 12 Texas Tech (4-1), No. 6 Georgia (4-0) and No. 2 North Carolina (4-2). In total, Florida has won seven indoor national championships.

In the most recent ITA rankings, the Gators held steady as the No. 13 team in the nation while also seeing Marlee Zein (No. 61) and Emma Shelton (No. 84) remain in the singles rankings. On the doubles side, the team of Carly Briggs and Zein moved up to sixth nationally while Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee shot up to 27th in the nation.

The Orange & Blue are also ranked 12th in the United States Tennis Association rankings.

After a strong week of play against No. 17 Old Dominion and No. 24 Florida State, Dudeney was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. The freshman continued her impressive start to the dual match season, earning her first ranked-victory of the dual match season against Tatsiana Sasnouskaya (116) of Old Dominion for her second win of her career at the two singles slot as well. She continued her impressive play, winning again at the second singles position, this time defeating Vic Allen of Florida State: 7-6(4), 6-3. With singles victories against athletes on top 25 squads, Dudeney improved her dual match record to 4-0 on the year and 16-6 overall in 2021-22.

In doubles play, alongside partner Spee, Dudeney picked up her fourth dual match doubles victory of the year. The No. 46-ranked doubles squad defeated ODU’s Biran/Alcaide, 6-3, to help Dudeney remain perfect at 4-0 in dual match season and the duo improved to 10-1 during 2021-22.

During their last outing as a team, Florida defeated their in-state rival, Florida State, for the second time this season. After claiming the doubles point, victories from Dudeney, Briggs and Sydney Berlin in singles play helped UF to a 4-1 victory. Berlin played clincher in Lake Nona, winning her three-set thriller: 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
