UF WGOLF | Strong start positions No. 4 Gators in second place at 9-under

Florida are four shots back of the lead as Elaine Widjaja led the Gators with an opening round of 68 (-4).

SUNSET, S.C. – The No. 4 Florida women’s golf got off to a great start in the opening round of the Clemson Invitational, shooting 9-under and sitting in second-place on Friday.

The Gators round one score of 9-under was tied for its second-lowest by par and fifth time this season. In 24 rounds this year, 13 have been for par or better and 12 under par. UF sits four shots back of leader No. 15 Vanderbilt (-13).

All four counting scorers were under par for UF as sophomore Elaine Widjaja led the lineup in the first set of 18-holes with a 68 (-4). She rolled in five birdies and just one bogey with a bogey-free back nine. Widjaja is tied for fifth.

The next two low scores were a pair of 2-under 70s in Megan Propeck and Siuue Wu. The duo is tied for 11th as Propeck ranks second in par5 scoring at 4.25. A stroke behind and the fourth UF golfer to finish under par was Paula Francisco with a 71 (-1) in T15.

Florida tees off round two tomorrow at 10 a.m.
