UF WGOLF | Florida Sits in Third Through Day One at The Ally

Maisie Filler led the Gators with a 3-under 69 opening round.

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Florida women’s golf team sits in third-place through day one of The Ally after a round one of 285 (-3) at Old Waverly Golf Club.

The Gators are four shots back from the leader Indiana (-7) and one back from host Mississippi State (-4) with four Florida golfers in the top-15. UF tees off tomorrow at 11:10 a.m.

Maisie Filler, fresh off her first collegiate victory, continued to play well and led the opening round efforts with a 3-under 69. It marked her team-leading 7th under par round and fourth consecutive along with her fourth straight round in the 60s in the tournament (three in 2021). She went bogey-free 4-under on the back nine with four birdies in her last five holes with three in a row. The senior is tied for 4th and two back from the solo leader.

Also shooting a low round was Inès Archer. The freshman finished with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 8th. She highlighted her round with an eagle on hole 15, a par-5 of 499 yards.

A stroke separating the next two Gators is Jackie Lucena (T13, E) and Sophie Stevens (T15, +1). Stevens bounced back from a triple on the first hole of the day and ended bogey-free on the last four holes with three consecutive birdies on 15-17.
