Marina Escobar shot 3-under as the Gators are two strokes off the lead in third.
SUNSET, S.C. – Marina Escobar began the final regular-season tournament with a 69 (-3) to be tied for the lead after day one of the Clemson Invitational on Friday.
Florida (+6) sits in third only two strokes off the lead from round one leaders Clemson and Illinois at +4.
A native of Almeria, Spain, Escobar went bogey-free on the front at 4-under as she pieced back-to-back birdies twice on the front nine. After two bogeys through the first three holes on the back, she found her groove and sank a birdie with six pars. The round was one stroke away from her career-low of 68 she last set at the SEC Championship in 2021.
The reigning SEC Golfer of the Week, Annabell Fuller finished T10 with a 72 (E) as Clara Manzalini was a stroke behind in T14.
Rounding out the lineup, was Maisie Filler (T76) and Jackie Lucena (T92). Individually, Jenny Kim is also tied with Lucena.
The Gators tee off round two tomorrow at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
