Florida Falls to JMU to Conclude Play at St. Pete Showcase
The Gators were defeated 77-72 by the Dukes on Friday afternoon at the St. Pete Showcase.

TAMPA, Fla. -Florida finished out the Tampa based tournament falling 77-72 to James Madison on Friday afternoon. The Gators had three players in double figures for scoring and were led overall by freshman Liv McGill<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/liv-mcgill/16880> with a 20-point performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After tallying a loss to Tulane, the Gators came out strong on Friday afternoon against the Dukes. Florida secured the first five points of the contest and held as high as a 10-point lead in quarter one. The second quarter teetered back and forth with a tied game at 27-27 (8:37), 39-39 (1:35), 41-41 (1:10), and 43-43 (0:21).

Florida and James Madison were even at 43-43 to start the second half. Kyle secured the first bucket of the third to put the Gators ahead at 45-43 (9:49). After that Florida was unable to produce offensively for the next four minutes and 42 seconds. The third quarter proved to be UF’s most difficult, scoring a game low 12 points.

UF continued to be challenged in the final period of play, as JMU outscored them 34-29 in the second half to solidify a 77-72 victory over the Gators.

IN THE FIRST:

  *   McGill tallied UF’s first ten points of the contest, putting Florida ahead 10-5 (6:39)
  *   14 of Florida’s points came from inside the paint

  *   The Gators grabbed 14 rebounds with seven players contributing on the boards

  *   Florida shot 50 percent from the field (7-14)
  *   UF snagged 10 rebounds, seven on the defensive end and three on the offensive
  *   The game was tied 43-43 going into half

IN THE THIRD:

  *   Florida was held to a game low 12 points
  *   Reynolds claimed half UF’s points with six, going 3-5 from the field
  *   JMU forced eight turnovers on the Gators in the third
  *   Gassett, Kindred, and Reynolds snagged two rebounds apiece

IN THE FOURTH:

  *   The Gators 17-points was spread across five players
     *   Warren (4), McGill (4), Gassett (4), Reynolds (3), Kindred (2)
  *    Reynolds led on the boards with two rebounds
  *    UF saw the free throw line for six attempts (5-6)
  *    Warren, McGill, and Reynolds played for the entirety of the fourth

WORTH NOTING:

  *   McGill has hit double figures in scoring, six of her seven games as a Gator (14, 21, 21, 11, 28, 20)
  *   Reynolds secured her second consecutive double-figure outing
     *   14 points vs. Tulane
     *   15 points vs. James Madison
  *   Reynolds led UF in assists for her second consecutive outing
     *   Distributed seven vs. Tulane, and three vs. JMU
  *   Florida had a season worst 23 turnovers
