Florida and Kentucky will face off for just the third time with both teams sitting in the AVCA Top-10
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Exactech Arena will by play host to a two-match series between the top two squads in the SEC when the seventh-ranked Florida volleyball team (16-2, 16-2 SEC) welcomes the No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats (16-0,16-0) on March 19/20.
Friday’s first serve is slated for 1 p.m. on the SEC Network + and can be heard on the airways of 98.1 FM/850 AM. Saturday’s match – which will serve as Senior Day – will also air on the SEC Network + and can be heard originally on FloridaGators.com/watch and on 98.1 FM/850 AM after the conclusion on baseball.
Florida holds the 51-16 series advantage over the Wildcats, including a 24-8 record in Gainesville, Fla. When UF and Kentucky are both ranked in the AVCA Top-25 Poll, the Gators also hold the slight 10-8 advantage.
The two teams have faced off only twice before when both have been ranked in the AVCA Top-10, with those matches coming in the 2017 season. The Top-10 series between Florida and Kentucky is tied 1-1.
The spring portion of the 2020-21 SEC volleyball slate will consist of a 16-match, conference-only schedule. Those 16 matches will be played as two-match series, consisting of four home weekends and four away weekends.
Senior Day
* On Saturday, the Gators will honor their four seniors: Holly Carlton, Paige Hammons, Darrielle King and Mia Sokolowski
* The ceremony will take place prior to first serve and will honor a senior class that has amassed over 90 wins, including three SEC Championships
* Three of the seniors have also already earned their undergraduate degrees and don the SEC Graduate patch on their jerseys
Parking Information
* The O’Connell Center lot and parking garage restrictions will be lifted for Friday’s match
* Those attending the match may park in either the flat lot or the garage
Last Time Against Kentucky
* The last time the Gators and Wildcats faced off was a five-set thriller between the top two teams in the SEC, with Kentucky edging out Florida (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 24-26, 12-15)
* The Gators hit .327 on the afternoon, led by 22 kills from Thayer Hall. Former Gator Rachael Kramer pitched in 14 kills on 19 swings with just one error for a .684 clip, while Paige Hammons added 12 kills of her own
* Marlie Monserez conducted Florida’s offense, dishing out 48 assists on the afternoon
* Four Gators finished in double-digit digs in the match: former Gator Allie Gregory (17), Monserez (16), Hammons (14) and Hall (11)
* As a squad, Florida notched 11.0 blocks, led by seven from Kramer. Hall recorded five blocks of her own, while Monserez added three in the match
* Hammons registered four of Florida’s eight service aces, tying her career-best mark
* Three Gators finished the match with double-doubles: Hall (12th of the season), Hammons (fifth of the season) and Monserez (eighth of the season)
