UF T&F: Anthaya Charlton Dubbed SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Charlton is the fourth Gator to receive an SEC weekly award during the 2024 outdoor season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Courtesy of her performance at the LSU Invitational on Saturday, Anthaya Charlton has been named the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After recording a jump of 6.60m/21’8” (-2.3) at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, Charlton continued her success in the event while competing in Baton Rouge. The sophomore posted a mark of 6.74m/22’1.5” (+4.4) to earn a first-place finish at the meet. Her distance, if not for the wind, would’ve equaled her personal best which she set at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Baton Rouge. Additionally, the mark would have earned her the No. 1 mark in the NCAA in 2024 and moved her up to No. 4 on Florida’s All-Time Top 10 list. Instead, she stands at No. 6 in the NCAA at 6.67m/21’10.75”.

She also contributed to the 4x100m relay team that recorded a sixth-place finish. The quartet of Kayla Davis, Grace Stark, Jayla Hollis and Charlton recorded the tenth best time in program history at 43.60.

The Nassau, Bahamas native is the fourth Gator to be named an SEC Athlete of the Week. Prior Gators to wind the award include Sean Dixon-Bodie, Parker Valby and Alida van Daalen.

Three Gators took home SEC Awards during the indoor season as well. Robert Gregory was titled SEC Men’s Runner of the Week, Parvej Khan was named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week and Flomena Asekol was crowned SEC Women’s Runner of the Week during the indoor campaign.
