UF S&D: Women Secure SEC win over Vanderbilt, Diving Debuts in Miami

Women earn first win of season, 14 make Gators debut.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida swimming and diving started off its 2023-24 campaign with the women’s team beating SEC opponent Vanderbilt, 180-75, to secure their first conference win of the season. Diving had a successful day in Miami, as two Gators made their diving season debut. The tri-meet against Nova Southeastern and FAU was canceled due to weather.

The Gators won every meet against the Dores , as Bella Sims won three events in her collegiate debut. The Nevada native finished in the top spot in the 100 backstroke, freestyle and butterfly, with times of 52.64, 49.20 and 53.06, respectfully. On top of that, she was the lead off in the 200-medley relay as Sims, Molly Mayne, Olivia Peoples, and Lilly Daly placed first with a 1:41.1.

Isabel Ivey earned three first place finishes in her Gator debut, taking the top spot in the 200 free with 1:47.44. The California transfer swam a 23.34 in the 50 free and a 2:01.64 in the 200 IM.

Newcomers
A combined 14 swimmer and divers either made their Gator or Collegiate debut today; Bella Sims, Chloe Bishop, Catie Choate, Melissa Cowen, Lilly Daley, Isabel Ivey, Lainy Kruger, Michaela Mattes, Carly Meeting, Ana Monroy, Grace Rainey, JoJo Ramey, Conor Gesing and Peyton Donald.

Diving
Freshman Conor Gesing swept the men’s diving competition in his Gator debut, winning at the 1-meter with a score of 354.90 and the 3-meter with 412.13. The women’s score was not counted on the final results, but Ana Monroy scored the highest in both dives, finishing with a 327.68 on 1-meter and 314.10 on 3-meter.
