UF S&D: Irish Senior National Team Member Molly Mayne Joins Florida

Mayne comes to the United States following an impressive youth career in Europe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Swim and Dive team added Irish Senior National Team Member Molly Mayne to the roster, head coach Anthony Nesty announced Wednesday. Mayne is projected to enroll for the 2023-24 academic year.

A native of Dubai, United Erab Emirates, Mayne has competed in multiple international championships across the European swimming stage, including winning bronze medals in the 100-meter breast and 200-meter breast at the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival at the age of 13 in 2019. She would later earn Swim Ireland’s ‘Performance Pathway Athlete of the Year’ following her breakout performance.

Mayne won four events (100 breast, 200 breast, 50 fly, 200 IM) at the EC International Championships in Dubai last March. She won the 200 breast by nearly 40 seconds, and was over 11 seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the 100 breast and 200 IM.

Most recently at the 2023 Irish Open Championship in April, Mayne posted top-five finishes in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 100 fly.

Mayne joins a recruiting class that already includes five of the top 20 recruits in the country, including the No. 1 swimming recruit, according to SwimSwam.
