AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Conor Gesing became the first Gator diver to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships after placing third on the one-meter springboard to conclude day one of the 2025 NCAA Zone B Championships on Sunday.

Gesing’s 357.00 prelim score earned him the second seed heading into finals. The 2025 SEC One-Meter Champion scored a 64.40 on this third dive, a reverse 2 1/2 somersault tuck, to move from seventh to third place, which is where he would finish with a combined score of 699.30. It marks the second-consecutive year that Gesing has qualified for NCAA Championships in the event.

Gators Peyton Donald and Jesus Gonzalez advanced to the one-meter finals as well, finishing shy of the top-seven qualifying spots. Fortunately, both will have another shot to qualify within the next two days of competition.

Heading into the final round of prelims, Donald was sitting in first place after recording three-consecutive 60-plus scores. His sixth-round dive score of 30.00 shifted his position to tenth. In the finals, he regained his focus and delivered back-to-back scores of 63.00 and 67.50, gradually moving closer to the qualifying spots. Despite his strong efforts, he fell just short, finishing in ninth place with a combined score of 668.10.

In prelims, Gonzalez started strong, scoring a 68.20 on his first dive and was holding steady in the top-four. However, his final dive score of 34.50 ultimately dropped him to ninth place, but his overall performance was enough to keep him in contention for the finals. In the finals, he remained in the 9th to 11th place range throughout the competition, just missing out on the qualifying spots for the top seven. He finished 11th overall with a combined score of 664.35.

Hear from Head Diving Coach Bryan Gillooly

On Conor’s performance:

“Solid start for us today. Conor picked up where he left off at SECs with very consistent high-level diving. Qualifying the first day will take a ton of pressure off the rest of the meet.”

On the team’s overall performance:

“Jesus and Peyton competed hard to the very end and came up just short of the automatic top 7. Now the pressure will be on the next two days because both are still alive if they qualify on another event. It will be a very exciting next couple of days. We’re all in.”
