UF S&D: Freshmen Duo Earn First SEC Weekly Honors

Bella Sims claimed Women’s Freshman of the Week; Conor Gesing named Men’s Co-Diver of the Week.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freshmen Bella Sims and Conor Gesing earn the first SEC weekly honors for the Gators this season, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Sims secured SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week, while Gesing was named Co-SEC Men’s Diver of the Week along with Allen Bottego from Texas A&M.

Named SwimSwam’s No. 1 recruit, Sims posted three first place finishes in her collegiate debut at Vanderbilt last Friday. The Nevada native finished top of the leaderboard in the 100 backstroke, freestyle and butterfly, with times of 52.64, 49.20 and 53.06, respectfully. Her 52.64 is the second fastest time in the nation for the 100 back. On the relay side, she swam a 25.39 as the lead off in the 200-medley relay to finish first with a time of 1:41.1.. It is the first honor in her young collegiate career.

Gesing earned his first collegiate honor after winning at the 1-meter with a score of 354.90 and the 3-meter with 412.13 in his Gator debut last Friday at Miami.

The Gators are set to host Georgia on Oct.13 in their first dual meet of the season.
