Dr. Katie M. Edenfield will serve as the head team physician for the 2022-23 FINA World Championships and the 2024 Olympic teams.
COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – Dr. Katie M. Edenfield has been named the head team physician for USA Swimming for the 2022-23 FINA World Championships and the 2024 Olympics teams on Tuesday.
Dr. Edenfield is a team physician for the University of Florida Athletic Association and also works as a team physician with USA Swimming. A former collegiate swimmer at Florida, Dr. Edenfield is board-certified in family medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine (CAQSM).
She has produced over 16 publications of medical research and received a Foundation Research Grant Award from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine in addition to a Visiting Faculty Travel Grant by the Southeastern Conference.
The 2022 FINA World Championships will take place from June 7th- 26th, in Budapest, Hungary and the 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, France. Dr. Edenfield will lead a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of other physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, massage therapists, and chiropractors who provide sports medicine coverage for athletes and coaches competing internationally.
In addition to providing on-site medical coverage, she also reviews pre-competition health history forms, collaborates with the athletes’ home medical teams, and helps coordinate any post-competition medical needs. Dr. Edenfield was selected based on the merit of her exceptional medical services at the University of Florida, her previous coverage for USA Swimming sanctioned events and strong endorsement by both the medical and athletic community.
