UF SB: No. 9 Florida to Host Stetson for Midweek Contest

Wednesday’s game against the Hatters is a makeup game that was originally scheduled to take place March 23.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Florida softball is set to host Stetson at 6 p.m. this Wednesday, April 27, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Tomorrow’s game is set to be streamed via SEC Network+
The Gators (35-12) enter the midweek contest after it dropped a three-game Southeastern Conference series to Arkansas at home this past weekend, while the Hatters (20-28) lost two out of three games played against ASUN foe North Florida in DeLand, Fla.
Florida’s team speed on the bases has been a staple to the offense this season as the program has swiped 105 on the year. It’s the first time since 2014 that the program has notched a season with 100 or more stolen bases and the mark is only the seventh time in program history that the Orange & Blue has produced at least 100 stolen bases
The school record is 129 stolen bases, which was set during the 2007 season.
Leading the charge is redshirt-junior Skylar Wallace, who currently leads the team with 40 stolen bases on the season. The Woodstock, Ga. native broke the single-season record last week that was previously held by Kelsey Stewart. Stewart broke the record during the 2013 season with 36 stolen bases and then duplicated the remarkable feat with 36 during the 2014 season.
However, Wallace isn’t just a threat when she reaches base, but she is also a threat to cause havoc while at the plate. Wallace leads the team with a .413 (52-of-126) average at the plate, has 59 runs scored and 36 walks, along with nine doubles, four triples and five home runs. Wallace is only one of two players in the nation to have 50 hits and at least 55 runs scored this season as Sydney McKinney (Wichita State) is the only other player to post those numbers.
Joining Wallace is senior Cheyenne Lindsey and freshman Kendra Falby. Lindsey currently holds a .343 (49-of-143) average with seven triples on the year, which ranks second nationally in the category, and Falby clocks in with a .388 (57-of-147) average. Falby’s 57 hits rank 36th nationally and the freshman speedster is a major contributor to the team’s stolen base tally as she ranks second on the team and second in the SEC with 27 on the year.
In the circle, the Gators have relied on the entire pitching staff this season as all six have double-digit innings. However, senior Elizabeth Hightower has contributed the most with 118 2/3, followed by freshman Lexie Delbrey’s 75 1/3 innings and fifth year graduate Natalie Lugo’s 63 2/3 innings. The staff as a whole holds a 2.48 ERA, which is currently second best in the SEC behind Alabama’s 2.30 ERA.
Stetson enters tomorrow’s game with an overall .235 average at the plate and a team ERA of 3.58. They’re led primarily by Brianna Clary, who holds a .327 average with a team-leading 51 hits and 36 runs scored. In the circle, Lauren Hobbs holds a 2.61 ERA with 94 strikeouts and eight wins on the year.
