GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked Florida softball team is set to host No. 4 Alabama for a three-game Southeastern Conference series this Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Saturday’s game at 5 p.m. is set to air on ESPN and will also serve as the team’s “Yellow Game”, in which teams will wear yellow accents on their uniforms in an effort to support those that have fought and who continue to fight battles against pediatric cancer.
The Gators (30-7, 7-5 SEC) welcome the Crimson Tide (31-5, 8-4 SEC) to KSP Stadium for the first time since the 2019 season. Alabama holds the all-time series record at 43-39 and 22-15 when playing in Gainesville. However, the last time the two programs met in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at Rhoads Stadium, UF took the series 2-1 after the team won the first two games of the series 2-0 and 9-2.
Florida enters the weekend with the league’s best ERA in conference play only as the staff sports a 3.20 ERA against SEC opponents. Elizabeth Hightower anchors the staff in conference play as she holds a league-leading 2.09 ERA among pitchers with a minimum 15.0 innings pitched.
Hightower is also the only pitcher in SEC play to produce two complete-game shutouts so far this season and ranks second in conference play with 44 strikeouts.
Offensively, senior Cheyenne Lindsey has paced the Gators at the plate in conference play. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native holds a .405 (15-for-37) average at the plate against SEC pitching with three doubles, a triple and a home run.
Alabama is led in the circle by the duo of Montana Fouts and Lexi Kilfoyl. Fouts holds a 3.92 ERA and an SEC leading 67 strikeouts, while Kilfoyl sits with a 2.86 ERA in conference action.
At the plate, Jenna Johnson has notched a .432 (16-for-37) average in SEC play. Johnson has accounted for 13 RBI and eight runs scored, with a double and four home runs.
