UF SB: No. 4 Gators Drop Midweek Contest At UCF

The loss was Florida’s first against an in-state opponent this season.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida softball team (30-5) dropped its midweek match up at UCF on Wednesday night, falling to the Knights (21-14-1), 4-0.

For the first time this season, the normally high-powering Gator offense was shut out, combining for five hits in the loss.

The difference was two swings of the bat, with the Knights sending a pair of two-run home runs out of the park at the UCF Softball Complex.

It’s just the second time this season that Florida’s pitching staff has allowed multiple home runs in the same game.

Freshman Katelynn Oxley (5-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing three hits, including a home run in the first inning, with one strikeout in four innings.

Sophomore Ava Brown pitched the fifth inning, allowing the second home run of the game.

Kara Hammock entered the circle in the sixth, with the senior retiring UCF in order.

Junior Jocelyn Erickson had Florida’s only extra base hit of the night, her eighth double of the season, while Kendra Falby, Rylee Holtorf, Gabi Comia and Mia Williams each recorded singles.

Falby has now reached base in every game this season, extending her streak to 35 games.

The loss is Florida’s first to the Knights since Feb. 27, 2021, and first to an in-state opponent this season.
