Florida softball second baseman Hannah Adams was the recipient of the inaugural Rawlings Gold Glove Award for her position.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Wednesday afternoon, Florida softball second baseman Hannah Adams was named by Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. as a recipient of the newly-created Rawlings Gold Glove Award for collegiate softball. The historic announcement took place during a joint press conference with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) at the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
“I couldn’t be more excited for Hannah to receive this award.” Head Coach Tim Walton said. “To be one of the first collegiate softball players to ever receive the Rawlings Gold Glove Award is a really special accomplishment and it is a testament to her work ethic and her God-given ability to make the routine plays look easy and the really special plays look routine. Our entire program takes a lot of pride in our defense and Hannah is the cornerstone to it. So it’s only fitting for her to receive this award as she is one of the best defensive players not only in our program’s history, but throughout the entire country.”
Adams, a fifth-year graduate, earned the award for her outstanding play on the field at second base. The Hoschton, Ga. native recorded a pristine 1.000 fielding percentage for the second time of her illustrious career as she notched 72 putouts and 89 assists on 161 chances. In addition, she has turned 14 double plays from her position.
In 2018 as a freshman, the talented defensive player became the first second baseman to record a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in Southeastern Conference history and is now poised to become the only middle infielder in SEC history to notch two perfect 1.000 fielding percentage seasons.
Adams and the Gators are preparing to take on Oregon State in their first game of the 2022 Women’s College World Series this Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
