The second poll of the season has UF ranked as the fifth-best team in the nation.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The second College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Poll of the 2020-21 season placed the Florida men’s swimming and diving team at No. 5 on Thursday.
The Gators (0-1) settle into the new ranking after opening up two spots ahead at No. 3 in the preseason poll released at the end of October. UF has only competed in one dual meet, suffering a tight 165.5-134.5 loss to now-No. 3 Georgia.
In their second competition of the season, Florida reeled in eight medals, seven new LCM personal-bests and 20 trial cuts after three days of swimming at the 2020 Toyota U.S. Open. Event titles by Kieran Smith (200 and 400 free) and Robert Finke (1,500 free) highlighted Florida’s three-day stay in Sarasota. Seven Gator representatives notched multiple U.S. Olympic Trial cuts as well.
Currently, the team is competing at the Auburn Fall Invitational, where they hold a 164-120 lead after the first day of action. Florida strung together a historic performance on Wednesday evening, posting four top 10 program swims and five championship heat victories.
The invite will conclude the swimming portion of the fall, while the divers will head south to Coral Gables to compete in the three-day Miami Diving Invitational, the final event of 2020.
After the holiday break, UF will host No. 6 Texas A&M in their home opener inside the Ann Marie Rogers Swimming and Diving Pool at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
