Florida shot its lowest round of the fall at 11-under 277 behind Zack Swanwick’s 66 (-6) and Jack Turner’s 67 (-5).
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Florida men’s golf team closed out the fall season with its lowest round by score and par at 11-under 277 of the first half of the season to finish fourth at the Williams Cup on Tuesday.
After a 13-over 301 opening round, the Gators improved each day and shot 1-under and 11-under to finish in fourth by nine shots. The final round of 277 (-11) was tied for the lowest of the tournament with host North Carolina, who won its home event at 16-under.
Jack Turner recorded his second top-4 of the fall campaign and fourth of his career. He shot a final round of 5-under 67 for a 54-hole score of 6-under 210. The Orlando native tied for field-low 2.75 (-3) average on pa4s and fourth in pa5 scoring at 4.67 (-4). Turner is now tied for team-best in even and par rounds (4) and tournaments (2). Since his collegiate debut last season, the all-american has finished T23 or better outside of a T44 this fall. He also went 3-0 at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup to lead the Gators to victory the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.
Posting season-bests in multiple categories, Zack Swanwick turned in a team-low and bogey-free 6-under 66. He finished a season-best 8th with a tournament score of 3-under 213. The freshman made four consecutive birdies from holes 7-10. His final 18-score today was 11 strokes better than his opening round. He carried the second lowest par4 scoring with an average of 3.87 (-4).
Fellow freshman, Parker Sands (+5) wrapped up his first collegiate stroke play event in T26, one stroke from a top-25. He tied for the third-lowest par3 average at 2.83 (-2). Sands competed as an individual with Ryan Hart (+10), who placed T51.
The next three in the lineup all finished within a stroke of each other, started by Parker Bell (+7) in T41. Matthew Kress (+8) had a 1-under 71 for his lowest round of the week and ended T45 followed by Rylan Shim (+9) in T48.
The Gators tee off the spring season at the Southwestern Invitational from Jan. 27-29 at Sherwood Country Club.
