It is the second time this season Florida lacrosse has had three weekly award winners.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After becoming AAC Regular Season Champions on Saturday, the Florida lacrosse team had three members take home AAC weekly honors. Maggi Hall (Attacker of the Week), Hannah Heller (Defender of the Week), and Gabbi Koury (Freshman of the week) all earned AAC Player of the Week awards announced Monday afternoon, after being key contributors to Florida’s 18-7 home victory over Temple on Saturday.
Hall earns her second attacker of the week honor this season. The senior had seven points, on four goals and three assists, shooting .1000 percent from the field on Saturday. Hall now has six hat-tricks, eight games of three or more assists and six games with at least seven points this season. The Bel Air, Md. native leads the team in points (85) and assists (45), along with ranking second in goals (42) and third in ground balls (18). The attacker moved into 12th in program history in goals on Saturday, and now sits just two assists shy of breaking the record for most assists in a season for Florida lacrosse. Hall is averaging 5.86 points per game over her last seven games, totaling 3.14 goals and 2.71 assists per game.
Heller was awarded her first defender of the week accolade. The senior was all over the field on Saturday, scooping two ground balls, causing a season high three turnovers, and winning two draw controls. The native of West Babylon, N.Y has five points this season (three goals, two assists), along with 12 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and six draw controls. The lightning fast defender has at least one ground ball and one draw control in three of the last four games, and how has eight career games of three or more caused turnovers.
Koury gets her first freshman of the week award this season, and brings the accolade to Gainesville for the second consecutive week. The Birchrunville, Pa. native scored one goal on one shot, and picked up a ground ball in Saturdays victory. Koury is tied for the team high this season in points among freshman with 13, and ranks second in goals (eight) and assists (five). The freshman also has five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Koury has recorded at least one point in 10 games, while appearing in all 17 matches this season.
The Gators have now had a total of 20 AAC weekly awards this season, divided up among 12 different players. No. 9 Florida (15-2, 6-0 AAC) carries a 15-game winning streak into Nashville, as they take on Vanderbilt in the semifinals of the AAC tournament this Thursday.
