Grace Haus, Shannon Kavanagh, Sarah Reznick and Cara Trombetta each pick up AAC accolades in week 7
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After sweeping the series over Cincinnati this past weekend, four Gators earned American Athletic Conference awards, as the league announced Monday.
Shannon Kavanagh earned her third Midfielder of the Week honor this season, while Cara Trombetta nabbed her third Defender of the Week honor this year. Sarah Reznick was tabbed as Freshman of the Week for the fourth time in 2021 and Grace Haus earned a spot on the Honor Roll for the fourth time to round out Florida’s honorees.
Kavanagh tallied nine points on eight goals and one assist in Florida’s two wins against Cincinnati. She also notched seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and two groundballs across the weekend.
In Friday’s game, the senior recorded four goals on five shots for a .800 shooting percentage, to go along with six draw controls and a caused turnover. The Smithtown, N.Y. followed with a four-goal, one-assist performance on Sunday to secure Midfielder of the Week honors.
Trombetta led a locked in Florida defense this past weekend, allowing Cincinnati to average just 4.00 goals a game. The Holbrook, N.Y. native had the job of marking one of Cincinnati’s top scoring threats in Monica Borzillo, limiting her to just two goals and no assists over the weekend.
The fifth-year senior recorded four groundballs, two caused turnovers and one draw control in the two games. She also currently leads a squad that sits fifth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 7.56 goals per game.
Reznick totaled 89:17 in the cage against the Bearcats, notching 13 saves while only allowing five goals. She currently sits third in the nation in save percentage (.564) through nine games played.
In Friday’s matchup, the redshirt freshman recorded four saves and allowed only two goals for a .667 save percentage, while tying her career-high in groundballs with four. In Sunday’s game, Reznick registered nine saves and a blistering .750 save percentage to lead Florida to victory.
Haus registered seven points on six goals and one assists against the Bearcats to earn her spot on the honor roll. The senior scored four goals on five shots for a .800 shooting percentage and registered a caused turnover in Friday’s game.
The Baltimore, Md. native finished Sunday’s game with three points on two goals and an assist to keep Florida undefeated in conference play.
The Gators are back in action on Thursday at Donald R. Dizney Stadium for the first of a two-game series against the East Carolina Pirates.
