GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida hosts Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night on SEC Network+ in the second of two meetings this season.

In the first installment back on March 22, the Gators one-hit the Wildcats for a 3-2 victory. Outfielder Jud Fabian<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15127&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=rT9tLOx6fubEIvzRZdU8V_bqQiTCpMxxmadcIBzEEn8&e= > went 3-for-5 with two home runs and one double, tying the game at 2-2 in the fifth with a solo homer and winning it in the seventh with another solo shot. The performance marked the seventh multi-homer game of his career (he has since collected his eighth).

Across 35 all-time meetings, Florida has only lost to Bethune-Cookman once – a 6-2 defeat on June 4, 2017 at the Gainesville Regional. Since then, Florida has won three-straight games against the Wildcats and are 14-1 in the series under Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_coaches.aspx-3Frc-3D1445&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=BAbUY3UZGT6psvubo2nmOKvJBOVpuOK_CgsRB6qSJKc&e= >, with all 15 matchups having been played at home.

LAST TIME OUT
Florida posted a 4-0 record and a three-game series sweep at Mississippi State last week. The Orange & Blue opened the week with an 18-3 win over South Florida in which the Gators scored a season-high 18 runs behind 16 hits while tying a season high with six home runs. Florida then took all three games against Mississippi State in Starkville (8-6 / 9-3 / 6-2).  It marked the Gators’ first road sweep since the final weekend of the 2019 regular season, when Florida swept Missouri in Columbia from May 16-18. It was also Florida’s first sweep of Mississippi State since April 17-19, 2015 in Starkville.

NESBITT TIDBIT
Tuesday’s start vs. Bethune-Cookman will mark right-handed pitcher Tyler Nesbitt’s<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15101&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=MnJWeLpfwOyw5D6eblkO8Ualy1MbEs8LVHVRFrTvcvM&e= > second of the season. Nesbitt previously started on March 8 vs. Jacksonville in his first outing of the year, pitching two shutout innings with one hit and one walk allowed while striking out three. In five non-conference appearances this year spanning 8 2/3 innings pitched, Nesbitt has a 1.04 ERA, .179 BAA and seven strikeouts. Nesbitt actually made his second appearance of the 2022 campaign against Bethune-Cookman back on March 22, pitching one scoreless inning of relief with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Gators batted .310/.431/.600 as a team last week, as outfielder Wyatt Langford<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15097&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=Spw7zAFYoZTE8rWBtCP2e4muVkO1IzVZd5D_5sSYnMw&e= > (.556), outfielder Sterlin Thompson<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15108&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=DX51zElBaZZhKuCeMoEC6A1freXMm6tfxFUpVU6CJKw&e= > (.545) and catcher BT Riopelle<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15114&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=bTIoM3oqVMdGYlsrj_a8Dt3VwDcWjB-GgJ6mgrlFO5k&e= > (.533) all hit over .500 while freshman outfielder Ty Evans<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15111&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=7_hmQC06gWcCskHD3ihqoXjtKMdT4Gf1f2aMSYOR1wE&e= > slashed .400/.455/1.100 with two home runs, one double and four RBI.

RIOPELLE RECOGNIZED
After hitting .533/.556/1.133 with a team-high eight RBI last week, Riopelle was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week on Monday<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_news_2022_5_9_baseball-2Driopelle-2Dtabbed-2Dsec-2Dco-2Dplayer-2Dof-2Dthe-2Dweek.aspx&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=XO-CdWF0C3XL2JQIj5CsNYLFa_zEl2Rc3bBy19cFCZw&e= >. Riopelle also tallied 17 total bases, two home runs, three doubles and four runs. In game one at Mississippi State on May 6, Riopelle went 4-for-4 with one home run and one double, setting career highs with four hits and six RBI.

BT PACES SEC CATCHERS
During the month of April, Riopelle led all SEC catchers with seven home runs, 22 RBI and a .672 slugging percentage. He is now batting .312/.376/.624 on the year with 14 home runs, one triple, five doubles, 45 RBI, 27 runs, 13 walks and four steals. He paces all SEC catchers in slugging percentage, home runs and RBI.

LINEUP SHAKE-UP SPARKS
Ever since the Florida lineup was shuffled for game one vs. Kentucky on April 29, Langford (first), Thompson (second) and Riopelle (fourth) have flourished in their new spots in the order. All three players are batting over .400 and slugging over .740 in the seven games since the change, sporting two home runs apiece: Langford (.448/.528/.828), Thompson (.455/.618/.773) and Riopelle (.407/.452/.741).

CLUTCH CAGS
One particular freshman has made a major impact in the Florida lineup over the past week and a half: designated hitter Jac Caglianone<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15113&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=EgmT_5EqnC_wy0YIbL_Q645Lr2G1jW5G1ZsuqH9t19E&e= >. The Tampa, Fla. native broke into the starting lineup on April 24 vs. No. 1 Tennessee and has now started eight-straight games at DH. Since debuting against Tennessee, Caglianone ranks fourth on the team with a .290 average and is slashing .290/.343/.581 with two home runs, three doubles, eight runs and six RBI. Caglianone was especially clutch in game two at Mississippi State on May 7 (2-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI), giving the Gators the lead in the fifth with a two-run double before driving in the eventual game-winning run with another RBI double in the top of the ninth.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER
A bevy of Florida’s freshman pitchers turned a corner last week. In game two at Mississippi State on May 7, four freshmen – right-hander Brandon Neely<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15118&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=JjIbbyDQkizE7sEYPMNrDpbXkFK1Uo9oWFDmoWZGhAY&e= >, left-hander Philip Abner<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15126&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=liJL9lND1DhqDXYzJyoKXpuG00YRpPdsu3Z8nGx9pX8&e= >, right-hander Fisher Jameson<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15120&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=8XreMH6gTf4Ingiw6jZmMM_E1raCxwS5FO2SEyHKDVo&e= > and right-hander Ryan Slater<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15105&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=9gUhNgc_dHCHpiAmqbT1FDigeP7mEKTQ3xSolYgO3ew&e= > – combined to hold the Bulldogs to three runs across nine innings of work to clinch the series. Slater earned the win in game two after nailing down the save in game one, while Jameson pitched four innings of one-run ball to earn the victory in the finale. Slater (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4.0 IP, 1 SV, 2 K), Jameson (1-0, 3.38 ERA, 5.1 IP, 2 K) and Abner (0.00 ERA, 1.2 IP, 2 K) combined for 11 innings of relief last week with two runs allowed.

FABIAN EYES HISTORY
Sitting on an SEC-leading 19 home runs (T-eighth nationally), J. Fabian is looking to become just the second Gator ever to eclipse 20-plus home runs in consecutive seasons (Brad Wilkerson, 1997-98). There have only ever been seven 20-homer seasons at Florida and only five players have ever accomplished the feat, meaning Fabian would account for two of eight 20-homer seasons in Orange & Blue the next time he leaves the yard. Fabian currently sits on 51 career home runs, which ranks fourth all-time at Florida. Last Tuesday vs. South Florida, Fabian went 3-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBI, both of which were career highs. The performance marked his first-career three-homer game and the eighth multi-homer game of his career overall.

HISTORIC HOME RUN PACE
Florida ranks seventh in the country with 87 home runs. The Gators hit their 71st home run in the 37th game of the season this year, matching the team’s total from all of last season’s 60 game schedule. Florida is on pace to hit 101 home runs in the regular season alone, which would mark the program’s third-highest total ever, as well as the most under O’Sullivan (2018 – 100).

GOING STREAKING
Thompson leads the Gators with a 17-game on-base streak, while Langford possesses the second-longest streak on the squad at nine games. Riopelle and Langford currently pace the team with four-game hitting streaks.

LANGFORD HITS APPLENTY
Langford boasts the most multi-hit games of any Gator this season with 19, topping Thompson’s 18 multi-hit performances. Of Langford’s 19 multi-hit games, nine have been three-hit days. No other player on the roster has more than five games (Thompson) with three-plus hits.

STATE OF THE DEFENSE
Florida ranks 14th in the nation with a .979 fielding percentage, having committed 36 errors in 1,711 defensive chances.

SULLY WINS 600TH
With a 13-6 victory to clinch the series over Alabama on March 19, O’Sullivan won his 600th game as Florida head coach – on the same day Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_staff.aspx-3Fstaff-3D487&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=FWrb9LvFvxGHi2B_FheYbc_r8QzimUhpt938DrM2OzI&e= > accomplished the feat. 2022 represents O’Sullivan’s 15th season as the head coach at Florida. During that time, O’Sullivan owns a 614-296 (.675) record, passing the legendary Dave Fuller (556-354-6) for the most wins in program history on March 9, 2021. O’Sullivan’s .675 winning percentage ranks third among all active Division I head coaches.

DRAFT BUZZ
After being selected 40th overall in last year’s draft, J. Fabian is again projected as Florida’s top prospect by MLB Pipeline, coming in as the No. 45 overall prospect for the 2022 MLB Draft. Left-hander Hunter Barco<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15091&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=bxYa3x5sX6syrB9MgU4Do4Zlm4kBfvaTbXMT3sGFau8&e= > follows closely behind at No. 54, while Thompson (No. 90) and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_roster.aspx-3Frp-5Fid-3D15106&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=7i2yWZW2mQUkOXUc7B4SB2Kc_1cR6yw6e6L5IDDKYX2-EKJnOpqw8GlRWTMHuh28&s=iTgqTAJGmLd-bxPQbLfLPuStapTePAalFo73-byc2rE&e= > (No. 98) fell just inside the top 100.
