UAB Women’s Soccer Drops Home Opener to Arizona State 5-1

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s soccer team fell to Arizona State 5-1 in its home opener at BBVA Field on Sunday.
 
In the 1st half, ASU (4-0-0) opened the scoring in the 13th minute and added another goal in the 28th minute, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
 
The Sun Devils went up 3-0 on an own goal before Stella Kiss set up Laura Zemberyova to get the Blazers on the board in the 65th minute. Kiss fed Zemberyova from midfield with a long pass, who took two steps inside the box and drilled a left-footed kick past ASU keeper Birta Gudlaugs.

Arizona State would add goals in the 67th and 85th minutes.

Zemberyova tied the game-high with three shots – all on target. Kiss, Lexxe Lipsey and Carlyn Presley also recorded shots for UAB (1-3-0).
 
Up next is another Power 5 opponent as the Blazers head to Auburn (3-0-0) on Thursday night. The Tigers’ match today at South Alabama was postponed. Auburn is coming off a 2-1 win at Troy on Thursday and a 2-1 victory over #12 BYU on Aug. 21.
