UAB Women’s Basketball Falls to UTEP in Overtime, 68-64

EL PASO – Despite a four-point play from junior Margaret Whitley at the end of regulation, the UAB fell 68-64 in overtime to UTEP on the road Saturday afternoon.With 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the Miners up 58-56, Whitley was fouled hitting a three-point basket. She made both the basket and her free throw, putting the Blazers up 60-58. 
A quick basket from UTEP forced overtime with both teams tied at 60. 
The Miners outscored the Blazers 8-4 in the five-minute overtime period, completing a 2-0 weekend for UTEP in its the two-game series with UAB. 
Whitley scored nine of UAB’s 17 fourth quarter points and finished with a game-high 23 points and five rebounds. 
Freshman Lindsey Dullard notched her second career double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 boards. 
In her first career start, freshman Maddie Walsh scored 11 points, nine from beyond the arc. 
In the first half, the Blazers (7-9, 2-8 C-USA) shot 40.7% (11-of-27) from the field and 5-of-14 from three. 
Dullard led all scorers with 12 points and six rebounds, while Whitley had six points to go with a team-high three assists. 
UAB went into halftime down 38-32. 
Whitley scored six of UAB’s 11 third-quarter points, putting the Blazers within two of the Miners (12-5, 9-3 C-USA), heading into the final frame down 45-43. 
UAB went on an 8-0 run to open the fourth, with Whitley and Dullard each hitting three-pointer and Sara Rosenfeldt scoring a basket in the paint. 
The Blazers shot 21-of-56 from the field in the game and went 10-of-26 from 3-point range. 
UAB will return home on Feb. 12-13 when it hosts LA Tech in Bartow Arena.
