UAB Men’s Soccer Falls to Charlotte 3-0

BIRMINGHAM-
The Blazers (2-8-1, 0-1-1) falls to Charlotte (2-2-1, 2-0-0) 3-0 in its first Conference USA road match.

“I didn’t think we had a good first half but our back four did a really good job keeping us in the game going into the second half,” said head coach Jeff Kinney. “In the second half, we started off really well and did a good job of getting the ball into our attacking third when we were extremely unfortunate on a few referee decisions. We were just not good enough on the night to overcome those. The boys kept fighting even being down two men for a large portion of the match.  Now, we need to regroup for another tough challenge against Florida International.”

In a very physical match, Charlotte was the first to record a shot on goal attempt within the first two minutes of the game that was saved by goalkeeper Seth Torman. The 49ers attempted another shot on goal that was saved in the 12thminute that Torman would save as well.

After two shots on goal within 12 minutes by Charlotte, UAB tried to get on the scoreboard with a shot attempt by Guillermo Rodriguez in the 22nd minute that was saved by Charlotte goalkeeper Daniel Kuzemka.

In the 59th minute, Torman was given a red card that resulted in his ejection and a penalty kick for the 49ers. Charlotte capitalized and scored off the penalty kick by Sean Suber.

The 49ers added two more goals, one in the 75th minute by Axel Sigurdarson and another in the 83rdminute by Kameron Lacey.

UAB will travel to the sunshine state to face another conference opponent in Florida International on March 20 at 12 p.m.
