IRVING, Texas – American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced that Tulane University President Michael Fitts has been named as The American’s representative to the College Football Playoff Board of Managers.
The board of managers is comprised of 11 university presidents and chancellors. The board develops, reviews and approves annual budgets, policies and operating guidelines and has authority over all aspects of College Football Playoff operations.
“I am honored to represent the interests of student-athletes and fans of the American Athletics Conference to the College Football Playoff Board of Managers,” said Fitts. “Tulane University and our fellow AAC institutions have a strong tradition of excellence in both athletics and academics. We are deeply committed to the holistic development and success of our student-athletes, and I look forward to bringing our conference’s perspective to the CFP.”
“Michael Fitts is an outstanding choice to serve on the College Football Playoff Board of Managers,” said Aresco. “His leadership, acumen and insight have helped to elevate both Tulane and the American Athletic Conference. His sound judgment and respect for the student-athlete experience will be welcome during this critical time for the CFP.”
Fitts has served as Tulane’s president since 2014. He recently completed a two-year term as Chair of the American Athletic Conference Board of Directors.
Fitts replaces SMU President R. Gerald Turner as The American’s representative on the board of managers.
“I would like to thank Gerald Turner for his years of service on the board of managers,” said Aresco. “Gerald has been instrumental to the success of the College Football Playoff and was a leading advocate for the expanded format, which will make the Playoff even more exciting for years to come.”
