TIGERS ACQUIRE ZACK SHORT FROM THE CHICAGO CUBS IN EXCHANGE FOR CAMERON MAYBIN

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today have acquired infielder Zack Short from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for outfielder Cameron Maybin. Short will be assigned to the club’s alternate training site in Toledo.

Short, 25, is ranked as the No. 21 prospect in the Cubs organization according to MLB Pipeline. He combined to appear in 63 games between the AZL Cubs, Double A Tennessee and Triple A Iowa in 2019, hitting .235/.363/.404 with 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 25 RBI. Short also appeared in 22 games with the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, batting .234/.359/.325 with four doubles, a home run and four RBI.

Originally drafted by the Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Short has played in 371 games in his Minor League career, batting .241/.377/.405 with 79 doubles, 11 triples, 37 home runs and 162 RBI. Short was named a Cubs organizational All-Star in 2017 and 2018 and was selected to the Southern League Postseason All-Star Team in 2018.

Maybin has played in 14 games with the Tigers this season, hitting .244/.311/.415 with four doubles, one home run and two RBI.
