BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team (10-4) will host their final home non-conference weekend series this weekend when they face Sacred Heart, who will close out its Florida road trip, which includes eight contests combine with FAU, Stetson and Bethune-Cookman. FAU has won seven of its last 10 and is coming off a 19-6 win over Seton Hall, a game that was played in Port Charlotte.
The Owls promise to entertain, tallying double-digit hits in each of their last nine games. The highest outlay of offense came last Tuesday, when FAU tallied 20 hits, including seven home runs versus Seton Hall. On the season, FAU is averaging 11.6 hits per game and 1.5 homers per game. The Owls hold a team batting average of .352, while the FAU pitchers are holding opponents to a .282 batting average.

Owls in Review
The Owls have won their last five contests. This weekend’s series is the first time FAU has faced Sacred Heart, while the Owls are 1-0 versus North Dakota State. FAU won the March 23, 2009 matchup 7-3, during John McCormack‘s first season as a head coach.
Jackson Ross serves as the Owls’ starting third baseman and is the team’s leader at the plate holding a .377 batting average. He has a team-leading seven doubles and hit his first FAU career home run last Tuesday. Second baseman, Seven Loden surrendered the top spot for average to Ross this week, but trails by 0.04 points at .373. Gabriel Rincones, Jr. paces the Owls with seven home runs and 23 RBI. He hit two homers in one game versus Minnesota and matched that mark versus Seton Hall. Rincones has five doubles and is hitting .367. Nolan Schanuel has two homers on the year as well as five doubles. The final Owl to hit above .300 is center fielder Jalen DeBose. Debose is hitting at a .313 clip and the nine hole hitter has six doubles, a home run and 17 RBI. Hunter Cooley, Friday night’s starter, tops the arms with a 3.37 ERA in a team-leading 18.2 innings pitched. Cooley has an 11/3 strikeout to walk ratio on the year. Reliever Robert Wegielnik has a team-leading 13 strikeouts, has walked just one and holds a 3.86 ERA.
The Owls’ Opponent
Sacred Heart is led by Michael Hernandez who is batting .273 on the season with three doubles. Joe Emerson gets into the extra base threat with three doubles of his own. Homers have been hit by Sam Mongelli and Dante D’amore. Jake Babuschak, Sunday’s starter, holds the starters best ERA at 3.00. Charlie Costello has made five appearances in the team’s 11 games and has the lowest ERA at 1.08.
Peter Brookshaw leads NDS with a .353 average. He is one of five players hitting over .300. Both Brookshaw and Jake Simonsen have two homers each and the team has a total of nine in 12 games played. The pitching staff is led by Evan Sankey, who is 2-1 nd has a 2.08 ERA.
