| The Taravella baseball team defeated Monarch 8-2 in the second round of the district playoffs. The Trojans celebrated their 20th victory this season. Top players included Edgar Marquez who hit a home run, Matt Rubin who hit a double, Chris Scinta who hit a double and Vincent Samuel who played well on defense. Ryan Meekins was the starting pitcher. Coach Joe Giummule was proud of this team’s wins. “This is the first time we have won 20 games in a season in 15 years,” he said. “We played well. Next up is powerhouse Stoneman Douglas. Giummule believes the Trojans can win. “If we play well, coach well and execute well, we can win,” he said. Both Stoneman Douglas and Taravella are highly ranked at the state and national level. |
