South Florida’s Peacock, UAB’s Cave Earn 2024 American Men’s Golf Top Awards

IRVING, Texas – South Florida and UAB earned the top two player honors for the season, while the Bulls also took home Coach of the Year as part of the 2024 American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf awards that were announced on Tuesday.  The American Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year awards were voted on by the conference’s 12 men’s golf head coaches.

South Florida’s Jake Peacock became the fourth Bull to be named American Player of the Year, while UAB’s Seb Cave earned the Blazer’s first American Freshman of the Year honor in their first year in the league.  South Florida head coach Steve Bradley won his conference-leading sixth American Coach of the Year honor and first since 2021.

Peacock, the 73rd ranked player in NCAA Division I according to Clippd, earns the American Player of the Year honor after running away with the 2024 American Individual Championship at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. The junior shot 11-under 199 to win the title by five strokes. Across 34 rounds, Peacock held a scoring average of 69.8, which included two wins on the season.

Cave earns American Freshman of the Year following a successful first season of collegiate golf. In nine tournaments, Cave shot an average of 70.7, which included two wins at the GMAC Invitational, where he shot 10-under 206, and The Carolina Cup, where he shot 4-under 212.

On the heels of winning his sixth American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship, Steve Bradley added his sixth American Coach of the Year honor. Bradley led the Bulls to a No. 46 national ranking in the Clippd rankings. At The American Championship, the Bulls shot 12-undr 828 to win the conference title by seven strokes. Over 11 tournaments, Bradley guided the Bulls to three wins and five top three finishes.

A total of 12 players from eight member institutions brought home all-conference accolades. The first 10 all-conference players were decided by a popular vote of the head coaches in The American, with two additional players who finished among the top-seven golfers and ties at the 2024 American Men’s Golf also selected. South Florida led the way with three selections, followed by SMU’s two selections.  UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, UTSA and Wichita State each earned one selection.
