GAINESVILLE, Fla. – October starts with a pair of Gator soccer players earning Southeastern Conference weekly honors. Daviana Vaka is the SEC Defensive Player of the Week and Florida’s goal leader Megan Hinnenkamp claims her second Freshman of the Week honor.
Four different Gators earning SEC Weekly honors is the largest array of individual recipients among all league programs this season. Lena Bailey was the first SEC Freshman of the Week and Alexa Goldberg was the Aug. 28 SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Quick Look at Vaka’s Performance:
* Made a clearance off the line to keep LSU off the scoreboard in 4-0 win in Baton Rouge, La. A Tiger sent in a deep cross in the 63rd minute. UF goalkeeper Alexa Goldberg cleared the ball at the near post but it landed at the foot of another Tiger located just above the goal. Before she could get a shot off, Vaka stepped in to win the ball and then drive end line to take control.
* Vaka has played the entirety of all but one match this season. Florida has six shutouts through its opening 11 matches.
* Vaka transferred from BYU to UF this season. This is her first collegiate season playing center back.
Quick Look at Hinnenkamp’s Performance:
* Scored a goal in each half of Florida’s 4-0 win at LSU – second double goal match of season.
* Hinnenkamp is 10th in Florida’s 29 soccer seasons with more than one multi-goal match as a freshman

Next Up:
It’s a Homecoming Weekend meeting with Mississippi State for the Gators. The Bulldogs (6-3-3, 1-2-1 SEC) tied Tennessee 3-3 in their last match Friday in Starkville.
