Mazda Wins Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
Mazda captured its first major endurance win in North America by winning the 68th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts on November 14. With Tropical Storm Eta departed, the weather was beautiful and fans enthusiastically welcomed the long-awaited return of the 12-hour classic.   After Friday’s thrilling lineup of five supporting races, Saturday began with a dazzling pre-race show highlighted by three-time Sebring winner Mario Andretti giving the command “Drivers start your engines.” After 34 lead changes among seven cars over the 12 hours, the No. 55 Mazda took the historic win with Jonathan Bomarito, Harry Tincknell and Ryan Hunter-Reay driving.   Porsche won the GTLM class for the third straight year, a feat previously only Corvette and Nissan had accomplished in the premier GT class of America’s oldest endurance race. The No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche won the GTD category and the LMP2 win went to the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Racing entry.

Gates open on Wednesday, March 17. Rave Reviews for Celebrity Cruises Luxury Lounge Sebring’s new Celebrity Cruises Luxury Lounge made its debut at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts last month. The VIP amenities were well-received by fans and the Turn One location provided one of the best viewing locations along the 3.74-mile circuit. Only a limited number of Celebrity tickets will be available in 2021. Returning guests will be given first priority in renewing tickets.

HSR Classic 12 Hours Runs December 3-6 Sebring International Raceway hosts the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic Sebring 12 Hour presented by the Alan Jay Automotive Network, December 3-6.   The HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour weekend celebrates the legendary race cars that have competed at Sebring over the past seven decades, with over 100 entries in several different classes. The weekend also features the Sebring Historics. which include the final 2020 rounds of the HSR WeatherTech Sprint Series, the HSR B.R.M. Chronographes Endurance Challenge races, HSR Stoner Car Care Global GT, HSR Classic RS Cup and the Sasco Sports International/American Challenge.   COVID-19 protocols and safety procedures will be in place throughout the HSR Classic Sebring weekend. Four Legends Added to Sebring Hall of Fame Sebring International Raceway’s Hall of Fame inducted four new members into its prestigious ranks during pre-race ceremonies of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts. Lyn St. James, Dick Barbour Racing, Janet Guthrie and the late Bruce McLaren joined a list of motorsports legends that have played a key role in Sebring’s incredible history.   Guthrie and St. James were pioneers for women in motorsports. Both won in class competing at Sebring and went on to race in the Indianapolis 500. Dick Barbour won Sebring as a driver and was the winning team owner three consecutive years. Bruce McLaren won the Sebring 12-hour classic in 1967 and also won the Formula One race held at Sebring in 1959.  

Trans Am Opens 2021 Season February 19-21 at Sebring The Trans Am Series, born at Sebring in 1966, returns February 19-21 as part of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) vintage racing weekend. One of the longest running series in North America, the Trans Am series runs a 15-race calendar featuring a diverse field of American muscle cars. Tickets will be sold by SVRA and information will be available soon at www.svra.com.

2021 IMSA WeatherTech Championship Field Looks Strong With the IMSA WeatherTech Championship schedule kicking off at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, a strong field is expected to compete in the entire 2021 season. Mazda, Cadillac and Acura prototypes are returning, with Wayne Taylor Racing and Michael Shank Racing fielding Acuras. Chip Ganassi Racing returns to the series with a Cadillac prototype, and several LMP3 cars will be eligible to compete next season. The LMP2 field is expected to expand with up to seven entries competing the full season. The GT categories look impressive, with Corvette and Acura set to return to defend their titles against a strong lineup of challengers.
