BOCA RATON, Fla. – Conference USA has named Florida Atlantic first baseman Nolan Schanuel as its Hitter of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday. Schanuel previously earned the award on March 13.
The Boynton Beach product went 9-for-14 in leading the Owls to a 3-1 record this week. He successfully reached base 13 times in 18 plate appearances and has now been on base at least once in 28 straight games.
Schanuel started the week with a solo home run in the first inning of Tuesday’s win over No. 15 FGCU. He also homered in each of the first two games in the weekend series against FIU. In Saturday’s 7-3 victory, he racked up a 4-for-5 line including a home run and three singles.
For the season, Schanuel is among the nation’s leaders in several offensive categories including on base percentage (.618, 2nd), batting average (.482, 3rd), and hits (53, 9th). His .964 slugging percentage is first in Division I by 63 points (Fairleigh Dickinson’s Luke Cantwell is second at .901). Schanuel was recently named to USA Baseball’s Midseason Watch List for the Golden Spikes Award
