2/6/2025 | Softball | Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team opened their 2025 season with a pair of thrillers on Thursday evening, taking down Ole Miss 5-4 in extra innings followed by a 3-2 victory over Kansas. With the wins, the Owls (2-0) picked up right where they left off from their 2024 championship season, GAME 1 The first three Owl of the evening batters walked to load the bases, eventually scoring two runs. Soon after, the Rebels responded with two of their own in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Neither team found an offensive spark in the remaining regular innings to send the afternoon into extras.Ole Miss scored two in the top of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead, but the Owls showed no quit and leaned on a group of their 12 newcomers for the comeback. Sophomore OF Ciara Gibson walked to lead off the bottom half, scoring off a single to center from junior C Chloe Yeatts. The tying run came off a powerhouse hit to left field from sophomore OF Kiley Shelton to bring home another runner. It was a pair of freshmen, OF Bella Foran and C Sophia Camacho who brought home the victory. The latter came in as a pinch runner and scored the winner off a single from the former, sealing the 5-4 victory. She rattled the opposing Jayhawks early and often, striking out five of the first six batters.On the offensive side, sophomore SS Kiley Channell built on her stellar freshman campaign with a strong performance, responsible for all three of the Owls’ runs on two hits, including her second career triple.
